Puri (Indian Bread) Recipe
The flavor of this Puri recipe has occupied my mind so much that I almost never consider any other Puri recipe. It is one of the most popular Main Dish to be served at the Indian table. I am certain that you will be hooked to my favorite Puri recipe in minutes. Try it now.
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup thick homemade yogurt
Unrefined safflower oil for deep frying
Directions
Mix all ingredients together well, except the oil.
Have the oil 1 inch deep in a small but fairly deep saucepan.
Heat on medium heat until a small piece of dough dropped in sizzles quickly.
Roll the dough out 1/8 inch thick or even a little thinner.
Cut with biscuit cutter.
Drop in oil 2 at a time.
Try to hold them under oil.
They rise as soon as they begin to puff.
They should puff and turn golden in just a few seconds.
Drain.
Serve warm with honey or maple syrup (a few drops in each puff).
