Preheat the oven to 325° F.
Blend the pumpkin with the dry ingredients, except the brown sugar.
Beat in the milk, egg, molasses, and rum.
Pour the mixture into a 9-inch coated metal pie pan, and bake the flan for 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted at the center comes out clean.
Chill the flan.
When ready to serve, heat the broiler and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the flan.
Heat just until the brown sugar melts and turns shiny.
