Barely cover them with water and soak 1 to 3 hours; then simmer until tender in the same water.
Drain off and measure liquid; add lemon juice and enough water to make 2 cups.
Heat liquid to boiling, remove from heat, and stir in the gelatin.
Chill in refrigerator until congealed; then break up and whip until fluffy.
Fold in the prunes which have been pitted and chopped or pressed through a colander or sieve, and return to refrigerator for an hour or two.
Serve chilled with cream if desired.
