Popcorn Owls or Spooky Cats Recipe
Ingredients
| 5 quarts hot popped corn | ||
| Sugar | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Water | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Light corn syrup | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Vinegar | 1 Teaspoon | |
Directions
Keep popcorn hot in slow oven (325°).
Butter sides of saucepan.
In it combine remaining ingredients; cook to hard-ball stage (250°).
Pour slowly over popped corn, mixing well.
Form in Owls or Spooky Cats.
Popcorn Owls: Form a little more than half the popcorn mixture into 5 balls for bodies of owls; remainder in slightly smaller balls for heads (butter hands if necessary).
Press heads on bodies while popcorn is warm.
For wings, cut candy orange slices in half lengthwise; press 2 pieces in place on body.
(If needed, use toothpicks.) Cut licorice jelly strings in fourths lengthwise; use 2 strips to make a chevron on each head.
Make eyes of orange-flavored hard-candy circles centered with ends cut from jelly strings.
