Directions

Mix all the dry ingredients.
Add water little by little and make a thick paste.
Apply it to the pomfret slices making sure to coat it well. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan.
Dredge the pomfret in rice flour and deep fry till crisp.
You can fry 4-5 slices at a time.
Serve hot as a side dish with rice and curry or as appetizer. (you can apply the same masala to any fish)
(Usually this paste is prepared by grinding the red chillies along with salt and asafoetida which you can store it for a month in refrigerator in an air tight container. You can apply this masala to potatoes or sweet potatoes and fry it the same way as you fry the fish).

Oh...I don't find 'bachali' in Indian Store here. In fact, in the place where I live, there are very few Indian Stores. The one I go to is about 12 miles away and I go on alternate Thursdays, because that is when the guy gets some fresh veggies. This store is more like a monopoly here and soooo many people come in on thursday and there is a looooooooooooong queue for billing. I haven't seen any Chinese Stores too but once while driving around I spotted an Asian Seafood Market. I hope I'll find something interesting in there ;)

Thanks Snigdha...Infact I was remembering you while preparing this...I read in some of your comments that your hubby love sea food...This one is one of my favorite fish fry. I searched for pomfret in about 15 Chinese stores and finally got it in one of them. Now I frequently go to that store. You also get winter melon and Chinese spinach (bachali in telugu, hope I am not wrong:)) there which are rare in Indian or American grocery stores...And Colarado is very far from Appleton :D
