Add shortening and 1 cup sugar to milk; scald.
Cool to lukewarm; add egg and salt.
Stir yeast mixture into milk mixture in large bowl; add flour gradually to form a soft dough.
Work in addi- tional flour, if needed.
Let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk.
Pit plums; cover each plum com- pletely with dough.
Roll each dumpling in marga- rine.
Arrange in greased baking dish, seam side down.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and additional sugar.
Let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
