Pickled Salt Herring Recipe
Ingredients
| Salt herring | 2 Large | |
| Vinegar | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
| Chopped onions | 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
| Peppercorns | 5 | |
| Allspice | 20 | |
| Dill weed | 2 | |
| Onion | 1 | |
| Chopped dill weed | 1 Tablespoon |
Directions
Soak herring in cold water overnight; remove skin.
Bone herring; dry carefully.
Slice diagonally into 1/2-inch pieces.
Arrange in serving dish.
Mix 1/4 cup water and all remaining ingredients except sliced onion and chopped dillweed in saucepan.
Bring to a boil; simmer for 5 minutes.
Cool.
Strain vinegar mix- ture; pour over herring.
Top with sliced onion and chopped dillweed; cover.
Refrigerate for three days.
