Pickled Herrings Recipe
This is an amazing Pickled Herrings recipe! The recipe is very easy to follow this delicious appetizer can be put together in no time. I use the Pickled Herrings recipe frequently! It is simply delicious!
Ingredients
6 herrings
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper
1 bunch parsley
1/2 cup vinegar
6 cloves
1 cup beer
1 sprig thyme
1 onion, sliced
6 peppercorns
1 carrot, sliced
1 teaspoon salt
Directions
Cut the heads off the herrings.
Gut the fish and slit all the way down the belly to the tail.
Run your thumb along the backbone and ease the flesh away from the bones.
The whole cage of bones should come right out.
Lightly salt and pepper the flesh and roll up into a curl.
Make an aromatic pickle out of the vinegar and all the other ingredients, boil together for a half hour.
Put the curled herrings in a deep pie dish and pour the pickle over them.
Cover with a lid or aluminum foil and bake in a moderate oven (350°) for a half hour.
This dish is served cold and should be kept for at least 24 hours before eating.
