Pickled Herring Recipe
Ingredients
| Miltz Herring - 6 fillets | ||
| Onion | 4 | |
| Vinegar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Water | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Spice | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Bay leaves | 2 | |
| Sour cream | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
MAKING
1) Under running water, wash the herring
2) In a bowl, add the fish and water and allow to soak for about 6 hours
3) Drain the water and keep aside
4) In a glass jar or bowl, arrange the fish and onions in alternating layers
5) In a saucepan, bring the vinegar, water, sugar, pickling spice and the bay leaves to a boil
6) Allow the liquid to cool slightly and then pour over the herring
7) Cover the jar or dish tightly and allow the liquid to mix well
8) Place in the refrigerator for about 49 hours
SERVING
9) Serve the fish with cracker, pita bread, toast or bread finger with the pickling liquid mixed in sour cream
