Candied Pfeffernusse Recipe

Ingredients
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon mace
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1/2 cup candied citron, finely chopped
1/2 cup unblanched almonds, ground

Directions
Beat the eggs until fluffy in an electric mixer set at medium speed.
Gradually add the sugar, beating constantly.
Then continue beating 15 minutes longer.
Sift the flour with the baking powder, salt, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and mace.
Add to the beaten egg mixture in thirds, blending thoroughly after each addition: mix the lemon rind, citron, and almonds in the last third before adding.
Turn half the dough out onto a lightly floured board.
Gradually add the sugar, beating constantly.
