Ingredients

 4 eggs or 6 egg yolks
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt1/4 Teaspoon
 Milk2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Pure vanilla extract1 1/2 Teaspoon

Directions

Blend together eggs, sugar and salt in a large saucepan; gradually stir in milk.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and just coats a metal spoon, 15 to 20 minutes.
Stir in vanilla.
Cool quickly by setting pan in a bowl of ice or cold water and stirring a few minutes.
Cover by placing plastic wrap directly on custard; chill thoroughly.
Serve over fresh fruit for a fanciful dessert that's simplicity itself.
