Peppered Hamburgers In Wine Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
1 lb rump steak
1 onion
salt and pepper
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
1 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons butter
2/3cup red wine
1 teaspoon chopped fresh herbs
Directions
Cut the steak into pieces and chop finely .
Chop the onion finely .
Mix the steak and onion together and season well.
Form into four balls and then flatten slightly.
Grind the peppercorns in a pepper mill and press the pepper into both sides of the meat.
Heat the oil and butter together in a frying pan and fry the meat on both sides over medium heat for 10 minutes, turning once.
Drain off any surplus fat.
Add the wine to the pan and scrape the pan juices with a spoon to mix with the wine.
Add the herbs, and simmer for 5 minutes.
Serve with vegetables or a salad and crusty bread.
Note For the flavor of this dish, it is most important that freshly- ground pepper and fresh herbs are used.
