Mix in egg and vanilla extract.
Combine flour and cream of tartar; add one-fourth at a time to creamed mixture.
Mix in nuts.
Shape into 1 large roll or 2 small ones.
Wrap in heavy-duty aluminum foil and chill until very firm.
Slice thin and bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes.
