Pears Baked In Wine Recipe

4 whole unpeeled pears (including stems)
 
4 whole cloves
 
1 cup dry red table wine
 
1/2 cup water
 
1/2 cup sugar

Directions

Pierce with a clove the blossom end of each pear.
Put pears in a deep casserole (fruit may be placed on sides); add wine, water, and sugar.
Cover and bake in a hot oven (400°) for about 30 minutes; baste occasionally.
Uncover and continue cooking 15 to 20 minutes longer or until pears are quite tender; baste frequently.
