Pear-tree Mince Pie Recipe
Pear tree mince pie is a heavy and filling pie made with a medley of fruits and dried fruits. Filled with apples, pears, raisins and almonds, the pear tree mince pie can be served with hot fruit syrup or cream.
Ingredients
1/2 cup seedless raisins
1 cup chopped pared tart apples
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup slivered blanched almonds
1/4 cup orange marmalade
1/4, cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons enriched flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pastry for 2-crust 9-inch pie
1 No. 2 1/2 can (3 1/2 cups) pear halves, drained and sliced, or 3 fresh pears, pared and sliced (21/2 to 3 cups)
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Directions
Simmer raisins in water to cover, about 5 minutes; drain.
Combine raisins, apples, brown sugar, nuts, marmalade, lemon juice, flour, spices, and salt.
Line 9 inch pie plate with pastry; top with half the pear slices.
Cover with mincemeat mixture; top with remaining pears.
Dot with butter.
Adjust top crust, crimping edges.
With cooky cutter or knife, make cut out in center of top crust.
Bake in hot oven (400°) 45 minutes or till done.
