Ingredients

FRUIT FILLING

6 cups sliced fresh pears (about 6 medium)

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1/4 cup dark raisins or chopped walnuts (optional)

TOPPING

1/2 cup quick-cooking oats

3 tablespoons whole wheat flour

3 tablespoons light brown sugar

2 tablespoons maple syrup

Directions

1. To make the topping, combine the oats, flour, and brown sugar in a small bowl, and stir to mix. Add the maple syrup, and stir until the mixture is moist and crumbly. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the pears, cornstarch, and cinnamon, and toss to mix well. Drizzle the maple syrup over the pears, and toss gently. Toss in the raisins or walnuts if desired. Place the mixture in a 9-inch deep dish pie pan, and sprinkle with the topping.
3. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the topping is nicely browned. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
