Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
5 tablespoons butter
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
4 cups sliced peeled pears
Directions
Stir together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Cut in 4 tablespoons butter till resembles coarse crumbs.
Mix egg and milk; stir into flour mixture just till moistened.
Set aside.
In saucepan mix brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.
Stir in lemon juice, remaining butter, and 1 cup water.
Cook and stir till thickened.
Add pears.
Cook about 5 minutes.
Pour into 8x1 1/2-inch round baking dish.
Immediately spoon on flour mixture in 6 mounds.
Bake at 400° for 25 to 30 minutes.
