Ingredients

 
3 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
 
2 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, Jonathan, or greening, peeled, cored, and sliced
 
2 tablespoons lemon juice
 
2 tablespoons bourbon, applejack, brandy, or apple cider
 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
 
1/2 cup sugar
 
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
 
2 tablespoons unsalted butter or margarine, chilled
 
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions

1 Preheat the oven to 550° F.
In a large bowl, toss togetherthe pears, apples, lemon juice, bourbon, and vanilla.
Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate.
2 In a medium-size bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and allspice.
With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, then stir in the oil.
Spoon the mixture on top of the fruit.
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove from the oven and spoon some of the juice that has collected over the topping.
Bake 15 minutes more or until the fruit is soft and the topping is crisp

there's no way this is supposed to cook at 550 degrees!
