Plunge them into cold water and slip off the skins.
Discard the water.
Mix the sugar or acesulfame-K and 1/3 cup water in a saucepan large enough to hold all six peaches.
Bring the sugar and water to boiling point.
Cook gendy and add the peaches.
Continue to cook gently for 5 more minutes or so.
Cool the peaches and their liquid.
Before serving, drain the peaches, saving the liquid.
Slice the peaches into dessert glasses.
Add the cherries.
Mix the soda and peach juice together and pour it over the fruit.
