Ingredients

 
1 1/2 cups pasticchio macaroni (mezzani)
 
1 beaten egg
 
1/4 cup milk
 
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
 
3/4 pound ground beef
 
1/2 cup chopped onion
 
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
 
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
 
1/8 teaspoon pepper
 
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
 
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
 
1 1/2 cups milk
 
1 beaten egg
 
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Cook macaroni according to package directions on top of range; drain.
Stir in 1 beaten egg, 1/4 cup milk, and 1/3 cup Parmesan.
Set aside.
In 1 1/2-quart bowl, cook ground beef and onion at HIGH for 3 to 4 minutes or till meat is browned; drain off excess fat.
Stir in tomato sauce, 3/4 teaspoon salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper; set aside.
In 4-cup measure, melt butter at HIGH for 30 seconds.
Stir in flour and 1/4 teaspoon,salt.
Stir in 1 1/2 cups milk.
Cook at HIGH for 4 minutes or till thickened and bubbly, stirring 4 times.
Blend 3/4 cup hot mixture into 1 egg; return to hot mixture.
Stir in 1/4 cup Parmesan.
Layer half the macaroni mixture in 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
Spoon meat mixture atop, then remaining macaroni.
Spread cream sauce over macaroni.
Cook, covered, at MEDIUM (5) for 20 minutes or till hot, giving dish half turn once.
Let stand 10 minutes.
