 Egg whites3
 Vanilla1 Teaspoon
 Salt1 Dash
 Sugar1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Walnuts3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs), chopped
 Saltine cracker crumbs1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
 Baking powder1 Teaspoon
 Canned frozen pitted tart red cherries20 Ounce (One # 2 Can/ 2.5 Cup 16 Tablespoon)
 Sugar1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
 Cornstarch2 Tablespoon
 Heavy cream1 Cup (16 tbs), whipped

Directions

Beat egg whites with vanilla and salt till foamy.
Gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating to stiff peaks.
Mix nuts, cracker crumbs, and baking powder; fold into egg whites.
Spread in well greased 9 inch pie plate, building up sides.
Bake at 300° about 40 minutes or till dry on outside.
Cool.
Drain cherries, reserving syrup.
Combine 3/4 cup of the syrup and 1/4 CUP sugar; heat to boiling.
Add cherries; cook 10 minutes.
Mix cornstarch with remaining cold cherry syrup; add to hot mixture.
Cook, stirring constantly, till thick and clear.
Cool.
Line shell with half the whipped cream.
Fill with cherry mixture; top with remaining whipped cream.
