Ingredients

 
2/3 cup milk
 
2 beaten eggs
 
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
 
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
 
8 slices day-old French bread, 1 inch thick
 
Butter or margarine
 
Powdered sugar
 
Maple syrup or honey

Directions

Combine milk, eggs, sugar, lemon peel, and dash salt; mix well.
Dip bread in egg mixture, coating both sides.
In skillet over low heat, brown the bread in butter on both sides. (Electric skillet 275°.)
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Serve hot with butter and syrup.
