| Cream of tartar | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Margarine | 3 Tablespoon | |
| About 4 tablespoons each milk and water, mixed | ||

Directions
MAKING
1 In a wide bowl sift together flour,salt,baking soda and cream of tartar.
2 Cut the margarine into small pieces and rub it into the flour with the fingertips.
3 Gradually add the milk and water and mix using a round-bladed knife to give a soft but manageable dough.
4 Knead the dough quickly on a lightly floured surface to remove all cracks.
5 Roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out 2-inch rounds with a plain or fluted pastry cutter.
6 Knead the trimmings together, roll them out, and cut out as many scones as possible.
7 Place the scones on a heated, ungreased baking sheet, brush them with milk, and bake them near the top of a preheated oven at 450 degrees farenheit for about 10 minutes or until well risen and golden brown.
