Orange Sherbet Recipe
Ingredients
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
5 cups milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup grated orange peel
1/4 cup lemon juice
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon yellow food coloring (optional)
1/8 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
Directions
1. In 3-quart saucepan, sprinkle gelatin evenly over 1 cup milk; let stand 1 minute to soften gelatin slightly. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring, until gelatin completely dissolves. Remove from heat; stir in sugar, remaining ingredients, and remaining milk until sugar dissolves (mixture may look curdled).
2. Pour mixture into 13" by 9" baking pan. Cover and freeze, stirring occasionally, until partially frozen, about 3 hours.
3. Spoon orange mixture into chilled large bowl; with mixer at medium speed, beat until smooth but still frozen. Return mixture to pan. Cover and freeze until firm, about 3 hours.
