Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup grated orange peel
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1/2. cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chopped nuts
2 cups enriched white flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 7-oz. package semi-sweet chocolate cut up fine
1 cup sour milk
2 eggs
Directions
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugars and vanilla.
Add eggs, beat thoroughly.
Stir in chocolate, orange peel and nuts.
Stir in sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour milk€”mix only until smooth.
Pour into waxed paper lined 9" square pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350° F.) for 50 minutes.
Elegant with or without icing.
