Ingredients
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
Dash pepper
3 cups milk
1 1/2 cups chopped fully cooked ham
1 1/2 cups shredded sharp American cheese
Toasted croutons
Directions
Cook potatoes in 1/2 cup boiling water till tender, about 10 minutes.
Drain, reserving liquid.
Add enough water to make 1 cup.
In saucepan cook onion in butter till tender but not brown.
Blend in flour and pepper.
Add miIk and potato water all at once.
Cook and stir till mixture thickens and bubbles.
Add chopped ham and shredded cheese; stir to melt cheese.
Ladle into soup bowls.
