Pesarattu is like a dosa, but not a dosa!! It can be eaten both as a snack and at breakfast. Pesarattu is a crepe-like bread made with green grams, typically eaten with various chutneys, which south India has to offer. Pesarattu is not just a keralite delight but it also has roots in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. So widely is this dish popular, that even several other parts of the country also have he presence of the Green Crepes - Pesarattu.

Recipe Story

Fondly remember an incident in north India, where I ordered for Pesarattu at a typically South Indian restaurant, when the dish finally arrived at my table, I could hear the onlookers murmuring...green Dosa, green Utthapam. It might seem so to some, but it is a simple Pesarattu!!

Ingredients

 Green gram2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cumin seeds1 Teaspoon
 Ginger1/4 Teaspoon
 Green pepper – 2 to 4
 Salt To Taste
 Onion – 1, chopped
 Oil1 Tablespoon

Directions

GETTING READY
1. Soak the whole green gram for about 3 to 4 hours in water.
2. In a grinder, grind the soaked green gram with cumin seeds, ginger, salt, green peppers to a fine paste.

MAKING
3. On a hot heavy hot plate or a griddle, spread a spoonful of batter on the hot plate, add oil and top them with finely chopped onions. Cook on both side like a pancake, till slightly brown.

SERVING
4. Serve hot and crisp with coconut chutney.
