Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies Recipe
A good way to win some compliments from friends and family is to prepare Old-fashioned Sugar Cookies using this recipe. Old-fashioned Sugar Cookies served as Snack is the best food to pep me up. I am sure both of us will be in agreement that this Old-fashioned Sugar Cookies is truly scrumptious.
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Red or green food coloring (optional)
Additional sugar
Colored sugar sprinkles (optional)
Directions
Cream butter; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
Add egg, beat well.
Combine flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg, add to creamed mixture, mixing until blended.
Tint with food coloring, if desired.
Cover and chill dough.
Work with one-fourth of dough at a time, store remainder in refrigerator.
Place dough on a lightly greased cookie sheet, roll out to 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut dough with floured cookie cutter, leaving 1 to 2 inches between each cookie.
Remove excess dough from cookie sheet, combine with remaining dough in refrigerator.
Repeat procedure with remaining dough.
Sprinkle cookies with additional sugar before baking.
Decorate cookies with colored sugar sprinkles, if desired.
Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned.
Cool on cookie sheets 3 to 5 minutes, remove from cookie sheets, and cool completely on wire racks.
