Old Fashioned Molasses Cake Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 41/3 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking powder | 3 Teaspoon | |
| Baking soda | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cinnamon | 3 Teaspoon | |
| Ground ginger | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cloves | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Butter | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 1/2 cups light molasses | ||
| Eggs | 3 , Well beaten | |
| Hot water | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices together and blend thoroughly.
Cream butter; gradually add sugar, creaming until fluffy.
Add molasses gradually, mixing well.
Blend in 1/2 cup of the dry ingredients.
Add eggs in thirds, beating well after each addition.
Beating only until smooth after each addition, alternately add the remaining dry ingredients in fourths and hot water in thirds.
Turn batter into a greased (bottom only) 13x9x2 inch baking pan and spread evenly to edges.
Bake at 350°F 50 minutes, or until cake tests done.
Cool cake completely in pan.
Cut into squares and, if desired, serve with warm applesauce.
