Ingredients
2 egg yolks, fork beaten
6 oz. (6 sq.) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 cup hot water
2 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups lightly packed brown sugar
1 cup sour milk
White Velvet Frosting,
Directions
Stir egg yolks into melted chocolate.
Gradually add the hot water, stirring constantly until smooth.
Set aside to cool.
Sift flour, baking soda, and salt together; set aside.
Cream butter with extract; gradually add brown sugar, creaming thoroughly.
Blend in chocolate mixture.
Beating only until blended after each addition, alternately add the dry ingredients in fourths and the sour milk in thirds to the creamed mixture.
Turn into 2 prepared 8-inch layer cake pans and spread evenly to edges.
Bake at 350°F 30 minutes, or until cake tests done.
