Old Fashioned Fruit Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
| Ripe red tomatoes | 4 Pound | |
| Peaches | 6 | |
| Pears | 6 | |
| Apples | 6 | |
| Onions | 6 Large | |
| 2 or 3 sweet red peppers | ||
| 6 stalks of celery | ||
| Vinegar | 4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 4 cups brown or white sugar | ||
| Salt | 2 Tablespoon | |
| 3 oz mixed pickling spice, tied in a bag | ||
Directions
Peel and chop the tomatoes and peaches.
Core and chop pears and apples without peeling.
Dice onions, peppers and celery.
Mix all together in a large kettle with remaining ingredients.
Simmer uncovered until thick, stirring often to prevent sticking.
Cooking time will depend on the juiciness of the fruits, but allow about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Discard the bag.
Ladle into hot sterilized jars and seal.
