Old Fashioned Cornbread Recipe
Old fashioned corn bread is a simple homemade corn bread recipe. Made with cornmeal and flour batter, the old fashioned cornbread is moistened with milk. Baked with added baking powder, it is best served oven fresh and warm.
Ingredients
Nonstick cooking spray
1 cup yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup sifted all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon unsalted margarine
1 cup skim milk
1 large egg
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Lightly coat an 8"x 8"x 2" baking pan with the cooking spray and set aside.
In a medium size bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt; set aside.
Melt the margarine in a small saucepan over moderate heat; pour it into a small bowl and whisk together with the milk and egg.
Add to the cornmeal mixture and stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
Spoon the batter into the pan and bake for 20 minutes or until the cornbread is golden and the top springs back when touched.
Cut into 9 squares and serve hot.
