Ingredients

 Okra1 pound
 Celery2 Cup (16 tbs), diced
 Onion1 Medium, chopped
 Green pepper1 , diced
 1/4 cup bacon drippings
 Tomatoes2 Large, peeled
 Sugar1 Teaspoon
 Boiling water4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt1 Teaspoon
 Pepper1/8 Teaspoon

Directions

1. Wash the okra, cut off stems, slice very thin.
2. Saute celery, onion and pepper 5 minutes in hot bacon drippings. Add okra, tomatoes, sugar and water. Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
3. Add salt and simmer 20 minutes more, stirring occasionally. Add pepper. Six to 10 servings depending on whether you serve it as soup or over a large portion of hot cooked rice.
