#165 Ohagi Recipe Video

I love Japanese sweets. I usually buy them from the supermarket. But I thought I’d try making some. I decided on ohagi because it seemed like it would be the easiest. Ohagi is basically rice, covered with beans and sugar. The rice inside is sticky – about halfway between onigiri and mochi. I followed a recipe which I found on the net.

Directions

MAKING
1. In a pan, place beans with some water and bring to a boil. Drain the water and fill fresh water. Repeat this process 3 times.
2. Boil the beans on low heat, until it turns tender.
3. Add sugar and salt. Using a rice spoon, crush the beans.
4. Using a rice spoon, crush the cooked rice, form equal sized balls.
5. On a plastic wrap, place 2 tablespoons of the bean mixture and over it place a rice ball, gently close the wrap to form a ball. Repeat the process to make several balls.

SERVING
6. Serve as a dessert or finger food.
