Oatmeal Spice Squares Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 1 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cinnamon | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Ground cloves | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Ground nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Butter/Margarine | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Firmly packed light brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Eggs | 2 | |
| Vanilla | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Applesauce | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 1/2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats | ||
| Pitted dates package | 1 , finely chopped | |
| Walnuts | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Citrus glaze | ||
Directions
MAKING
1. On a waxed paper, sift flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
2. Cream butter/margarine with brown sugar till fluffy, beat eggs one by one into it and add vanilla
3. Add flour mixture to it, half at a time and alternately with applesauce, oats, dates and walnuts and mix till just blended
4. Add it to a greased 13"X9"X2" pan and smooth the top; bake for a little over half an hour at 375°F until its centre is fluffy and spongy
5. Remove on to a wire rack to cool, drizzle citrus glaze on it and allow to stand till firm
SERVING
6. Cut into bite sized squares before serving
