Oatmeal Bread Recipe
Ingredients
| Cake yeast | 1 | |
| Warm water | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Boiling water | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Oatmeal | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Brown sugar | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Butter | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| White flour | 6 Cup (16 tbs) |
Directions
Dissolve yeast in water.
Scald oatmeal in boiling water, add sugar, salt and butter to this mixture.
Let cool.
When cool, add yeast.
Mix in enough white flour so it can be removed to a bread board for kneading.
Knead for 10 minutes.
Place back into large bowl.
Cover, and let rise to twice its bulk.
Flour bread board, and put dough on board for second kneading.
Add remainder of flour or a little more if necessary.
Knead for 10 minutes.
Form into 2 loaves.
Place in greased 9x5x3-inch bread pans.
Cover, and let rise again to twice its bulk.
Bake at 400° for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350° for 30 minutes more.
Cool on rack, and butter top crust slightly.
