Ingredients
| Onions | 3 Large | |
| Ground pepper | 1 Teaspoon, divided | |
| Mozzarella cheese package | 1 , shredded | |
| Pecans and walnuts | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Heavy cream | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 (9 inch) pie crust, unbaked | ||
| Egg yolk | 1 | |
| Water | 1 Tablespoon | |
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Slice onions into 1/4-inch thick rings.
Steam onions, rings intact, for 5 minutes.
Place 1/2 of the steamed onions in the bottom of casserole dish keeping rings intact.
Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon pepper over onions.
Layer 1/2 of the cheese over onions, nuts.
Layer remaining onions and then the cheese.
Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon pepper over layers the heavy cream.
Cover top of the dish with pie crust forming a rim around the edge.
Just before baking, beat egg yolk and water together and brush over pie crust.
Bake for 30-40 minutes.
