Nut Turnovers Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup walnut meats, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon masticha"
Honey
1 cup blanched almonds coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon clove
Pastry dough
Rose water or orange flower water
Confectioners' sugar
Directions
Combine nuts, cinnamon, clove, and masticha and mix with enough honey to bind the mixture without making it too stiff.
Allow to stand while making pastry.
Roll out dough as thinly as possible on a floured board and cut into 3 inch rounds.
Place 1 heaping tablespoon of filling on each round, fold over as in making an apple turnover, moisten edges, and seal.
Place turnovers on a greased baking sheet and bake in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then dip in rose water or orange flower water and sprinkle with sugar.
