Nut Bars Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Butter/Margarine | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), softened | |
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Eggs | 2 | |
| Vanilla extract | ||
| Finely chopped walnuts | 1 4 Ounce | |
| Egg whites | 2 | |
| Brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
1. Into large bowl, measure first 6 ingredients and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. With mixer at low speed, beat ingredients until just mixed; increase speed to medium; beat 5 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula.
2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 13" by 9" baking dish. Spread dough in baking dish; sprinkle nuts over top.
3. In small bowl, with mixer at high speed, beat 2 egg whites just until stiff peaks form; with rubber spatula, fold in brown sugar and ¥2 teaspoon vanilla. Spread mixture evenly over nut layer. Bake 30 to 40 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut crosswise into 6 strips, then cut each strip into 5 pieces.
