 Butter1⁄4 Pound, melted
 Cloves1 Teaspoon
 Sugar1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
 Soda2 Teaspoon
 Dark molasses1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Flour2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
 Cinnamon1 Teaspoon
 Eggs2 , beaten
 Ginger1 Teaspoon

Directions

Cream butter and sugar; add molasses and spices.
Dissolve soda in 1 cup boiling water; stir into creamed mixture.
Stir in flour; add eggs, blending well.
Spoon batter into 2 greased and floured layer cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
Frost if desired.
