New England Dressing Recipe

First of all let me thank my neighbor for sharing this excellent New England Dressing recipe. I tried this recipe for New England Dressing the other day and was totally bowled over. Not trying out this New England Dressing after reading about it is one of the biggest sins you could possibly imagine of committing.

Ingredients

 
2 quarts cubed stale bread, crusts removed
 
1 cup minced onion
 
1/2 cup butter
 
3/4 teaspoon powdered thyme
 
3/4 teaspoon sage
 
1 tablespoon salt
 
1 1/2 teaspoons white pepper
 
1/4 teaspoon powdered bay leaf
 
1/2 cup diced celery
 
1/2 cup coarsely chopped celery leaves
 
1/2 cup diced peeled tart apple

Directions

1. Dry out the bread cubes in a slow oven (300° F.). Do not let brown.
2. Cook the onion in the butter until transparent, stirring often. Add the thyme, sage, salt, pepper and bay leaf and blend.
3. Add the celery, the leaves of the celery and the apple. Cook three to five minutes. Add to the bread and mix well.
