Mrs. Eisenhower'S Devil'S Food Cake Recipe

Devil's Food Cake made using this recipe is an experience by itself. It is a Canadian cuisine delicacy. Best enjoyed as a Dessert this recipe was taught to me by a dear friend who also happens to be a great chef. I shall look forward to your comments on this recipe.

Ingredients

 
2/3 cup cocoa
 
1/2 cup boiling water
 
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
 
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
 
1 teaspoon baking soda
 
1/4 teaspoon salt
 
1/2 cup butter
 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
2 cups sugar
 
3 egg yolks
 
1 cup sour milk,
 
3 egg whites, beaten to stiff, not dry, peaks
 
Seven-Minute Frosting

Directions

Mix cocoa and water together; set aside to cool.
Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together; set aside.
Cream butter with extract; gradually add sugar, creaming thoroughly.
Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
Add cocoa mixture and beat until well blended.
Beating only until blended after each addition, alternately add dry ingredients in thirds and sour milk in halves to creamed mixture.
Fold in beaten egg whites.
Turn batter into 2 prepared 9-inch layer cake pans and spread evenly to edges.
Bake at 375°F 25 to 30 minutes, or until cake tests done.
Cool and remove from pans as directed for butter-type cakes.
Fill and frost with Seven-Minute Frosting.
