Mrs. Eisenhower'S Deep Dish Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
| Pie crust pastry | 1 | |
| Tart apples | 6 | |
| Sugar | 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
| Firmly packed brown sugar | 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
| Ground nutmeg | 1⁄2 Teaspoon | |
| Grated lemon peel | 1 (About 1.5 Teaspoons) | |
| Grated orange peel | 1 (About 2 Teaspoons) | |
| Butter/Margarine | 3 Tablespoon |
Directions
Prepare pastry and roll out slightly larger than overall size of baking dish to be used.
Prick in a design.
Set aside.
Pare and core apples; cut into eighths.
Put into a greased deep 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
Combine sugars, nutmeg, and lemon and orange peels; sprinkle mixture over the apples.
Dot with butter.
Cover with the pastry.
Bake at 425°F 40 to 45 minutes.
