Directions
If dried codfish steaks are used, soak in cold water overnight.
Place fish in a well-greased oblong baking dish.
Steaks should lie side by side, overlapping slightly.
Top fish with lemon and onion slices.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Dried codfish steaks will require less salt.
Sprinkle with allspice.
Pour wine over fish.
Combine bread crumbs with grated cheese and sprinkle over fish.
Dot with butter.
Bake, uncovered, in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for 25 minutes, or until fish flakes.
