 Onion1 Large, chopped
 Shredded fresh ginger root1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
 Salt1 Teaspoon
 Freshly ground pepper1 Teaspoon
 Turmeric1⁄8 Teaspoon
 Cinnamon stick1
 Butter1⁄2 Teaspoon
 Garlic2 Clove (10 gm), minced
 Lean beef stew2 Pound, cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes
 Dried pear halves8
 Honey1 Tablespoon
 Lime juice/Lemon juice1 1⁄2 Tablespoon
 Chopped pistachios/Toasted almonds2 Tablespoon
 Chopped cilantro1 Tablespoon
 Lime wedges/Lemon wedges2

Directions

In a heavy dutch oven saute onion, ginger, salt, pepper, turmeric, and cinnamon in butter until glazed.
Add garlic and beef and saute a few minutes.
Cover and bake in a 325° oven for 1 1/2 hours.
Cut pears into thirds, add to meat, and bake 30 minutes longer, or until tender.
Add honey and lime juice to pan drippings and heat, scraping up drippings.
Sprinkle with nuts and cilantro and garnish with lime wedges.
