1 cup molasses
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon soda
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ginger
3/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
3 3/4 cups sifted flour

How to make Moravian Cookies

Heat molasses to boiling point and remove from heat.
Add shortening and stir until well blended.
Stir in sugar, salt, soda and spices; then stir in flour and blend thoroughly.
Cover and store in refrigerator from 5 days to 2 weeks.
(Dough does not hold together unless thoroughly chilled.) Roll out, a small amount at a time, on a lightly-floured board to 1-16 inch.
Cut in desired shape.
Place on baking sheet.
Bake in a moderately-hot oven (375°F) 5 to 6 minutes.
