Moravian Cookies Recipe
Try out these Moravian Cookies. The recipe is simple, and the cookies absolutely delicious!! The cookies have a pleasant spiciness to them, with a dash of sweetness. You need to plan ahead if you want to bake these on a particular day, since the dough does require extended refrigeration before baking.
Ingredients
Molasses - 1 cup
Shortening - 1/2 cup
Brown sugar - 1/3 cup, firmly packed
Salt - 1 teaspoon
Soda - 3/4 teaspoon
Cinnamon - 3/4 teaspoon
Ginger - 3/4 teaspoon
Cloves - 3/4 teaspoon
Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
Allspice -1/4 teaspoon
Sifted flour - 3 3/4 cups
Directions
MAKING
1) In a pot, add molasses and heat to boiling point and remove from heat.
2) Add in the shortening and stir till well blended.
3) Stir in the sugar, salt, soda, and spices.
4) Add in the flour and blend well.
5) Cover and refrigerate from 5 days to 2 weeks, till the dough holds well.
6) Lightly flour a board.
7) Pinching out a small quantity at a time, roll out the dough to 1-16 inch.
8) Cut in desired shapes.
9) Arrange on a baking sheet.
10) Place in the oven at 375°F and bake for 5 to 6 minutes.
SERVING
11) Serve as a snack.
