Ingredients

 
1/2 cup jujubes, quartered
 
1/2 cup green preserved plums, quartered
 
3 preserved cherries, quartered
 
1/2 cup brown sugar
 
1/4 cup red wine
 
1 cup chopped boiled beef
 
1/4 cup chopped suet
 
2 tablespoons chopped walnut meats
 
2 tablespoons preserved ginger
 
4 tablespoons pine nuts
 
6 lotus seeds
 
1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
 
1/4, teaspoon salt
 
Pie crust

Directions

Mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan and cook slowly for 1 hour, stirring frequently.
Cool before using.
Roll out the pie crust very thin and line small tart pans with it.
Fill the pans 3/4 full with the mixture and cover with a top of crust.
With the remainder of the pastry, cut out crescents and other shapes denoting the moon (rabbits, etc.) and put on top of the crust.
Preheat the oven to 475 degrees and bake tarts for 20 to 30 minutes.
Serve hot or cold on the fifteenth day of the eighth moon (Harvest Moon).
