Monte Carlo Bread Recipe
Ingredients
| Active dry yeast | 1 | |
| Water | 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), warm | |
| Milk | 1 Cup (16 tbs), scalded | |
| Sugar | 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
| Salt | 3⁄4 Teaspoon | |
| Shortening | 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
| All purpose flour | 4 Cup (64 tbs) | |
| Eggs | 3 Small, slightly beaten | |
| Currants | 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs) |
Directions
GETTING READY
1.Start by preheating the oven to 400F degrees
MAKING
2.In a bowl, pour warm water and soften the yeast in it
3.Also in another bowl, combine milk with sugar, salt and shortening
4.Once the milk mixture is warm add the yeast
5.Now add half the flour and beat well
6.Set aside until the dough rises and becomes light
7.Now beat in eggs, currants and remaining flour
8.Knead the dough lightly and let rise until light, once it turns light shape into 2 loaves
9.On the greased 9x5 inch loaf pans, place the dough
10.Let rise
11.Finally bake in the oven for 10 minutes, then reduce temperature to 375F and bake for 20-30 minutes
SERVING
12.Serve with a sauce of your choice
