Mom's Date Loaf Recipe
Ingredients
| Sugar | 4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 heaping tablespoons flour | ||
| 14 dates, cut up | ||
| 1 3/4 small cans Pet milk | ||
| 1 stick butter or oleo | ||
| Vanilla | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 1 1/2 or more cups cut-up pecans | ||
Directions
Using a heavy aluminum boiler, mix sugar, flour, dates and milk with a wooden spoon, Place on heat and cook over medium flame, stirring constantly so that the candy will not scorch.
Cook until it forms a hard ball in cold water or 265 degrees F on candy thermometer.
Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla and pecans.
Set the boiler in cold water and beat until it begins to stiffen.
Pour out on dampened cloth, cotton or linen, and shape into a loaf or roll, using the dampened towel to help shape.
Refrigerate until cool.
Wrap in waxed paper, then foil.
Serves 24 to 36.
