Mom's Applesauce Cake Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Directions
Combine the sugar, shortening and applesauce in a saucepan; bring to the boiling point.
Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Combine the applesauce mixture, vanilla and egg in a mixing bowl; mix well.
Stir in a mixture of the flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves and baking soda.
Fold in the raisins and walnuts.
Spread in a greased 9x13 inch cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until cake tests done.
